The USS Kirk's rescue of Vietnamese refugees

In 2007, BUMED Historian Jan Herman was working on oral histories of
Vietnam, and came across the story of the USS Kirk's humanitarian
mission to rescue refugees from the Vietnam War. Herman was ordered by
the Surgeon General VADM Robinson to make a film about this amazing
story which he completed in 2010. The story of the Kirk under the
command of Captain Paul Jacobs is told in The Lucky Few: The Story of
the USS Kirk which can be seen at

National Public Radio also picked up the story and did four segments a
year ago which can be found at The USS Kirk: Valor At The Vietnam War's
